Selling a home

Selling a vacant house in Kansas City

Nobody lives there, and the insurance, the grass, and the tax bill did not stop. Vacant is a reason to sell.

This guide is part of Selling a home. Back to the homepage.

Empty gets more expensive

A house you left behind still needs heat in winter, a mowed yard in summer, and insurance that may cost more because it is vacant. Pipes, broken windows, and notices show up while you are somewhere else.

This is common after a move, after a parent dies, and after a rental goes quiet. Grandview, the Platte County side of Kansas City, Edwardsville, and plenty of other metro towns have houses in that spot.

You do not have to move back

We can look at the house if you are out of town. Closing is at a title company on a date you pick. Take what you want on one trip. Leave the rest.

If taxes are also behind, they can be paid at closing when we buy the house. You do not catch everything up before the first call.

Questions

How long has it been empty?

Tell us. A few months or a few years both work. The condition matters more than the calendar.

What if the utilities are off?

That is all right. Say so before the visit so we know what we are walking into.
